Internship at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and The Studio Theatre at Tierra Del Sol

June 1st - July 30th, 2017

The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and The Studio Theatre at Tierra Del Sol are seeking interns in both Production and Administration for the summer of 2017. Located in The Villages of Florida approximately 50 miles North of Orlando and 60 miles South of Gainesville, The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and The Studio Theatre at Tierra Del Sol, are a professional road house and regional theatre (respectively) which house plays/musicals and concerts on the road and simultaneously operate a professional regional theatre. Qualifications for administrative interns in the summer of 2017 will include/but not be limited to the following:

Administrative Interns:

  • Assist the Artistic Director and Resident Director in structuring and maintaining all files and correspondence for season auditions for the 2017-2018 Season.
  • Serve as a research assistant/dramaturg to the Artistic Director/Resident Director in historical research on any and all productions in both The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and The Studio Theatre at Tierra Del Sol.
  • Work under the supervision of the Operations Manager and/ or Artistic Director and Booking Coordinator in tracking sales or cost history and marketing.
  • Assist Technical Director and/or any production staff member in our 2017 Summer Camp for children, and our Summer Opera Festival.
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License

In Addition: Strong computer skills and diversity in Microsoft Office is required. A working knowledge of the performing arts, and/or a significant dedication to learning the daily operations of Performing Arts administration is expected. College students (at the sophomore-senior level) working towards a degree in an aspect of the performing arts (i.e. Theatre, Dance, Music) is preferred.

Production Interns:

  • Will be used as carpenters, scenic artists, electricians, and sound engineers.
  • Assist in constructing sets for all four of the shows for The Studio’s 2017 – 2018 season.
  • Assist in the daily operations as well as the maintenance of The Sharon.
  • Assist in our 2017 Summer Camp for children, and our summer music festival, as designated by our staff.
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License.

Skills required: basic shop skills, basic power tools, basic stage electrics, ability to read draftings.

College students (at the sophomore-senior level) working towards a degree in an aspect of theatrical design or technology (i.e. Scenic, Lighting, Technical Direction or Stage Management) is preferred.

All interns will fall under the supervision of the Director of Education, with daily assignments provided by the intern’s direct supervisor. Interns chosen are not only a representative of our institutions, but of The Villages Corporation. Excellent communication skills, razor sharp punctuality, and the ability to present oneself in a professional demeanor, at all times, will be expected.

  • A total of four interns will be chosen:
    • 2 Administrative Intern
    • 2 Production Interns

Interns chosen will be provided housing and a minimum of 30 hours of work per week/ paid hourly at the rate of minimum wage for the state of Florida.
