What is Rent about?
It's a modern version of the opera La Boheme. Set in New York's East Village, it's an emotionally stirring story of a community of young artists struggling to live and celebrate life.

Is it a musical?
Yes. The show's songs incorporate dance pop, salsa, R&B and rock 'n' roll.

Is it loud?
The songs range from rock ‘n roll to quiet ballads.

Is it appropriate for children?
It is a story which addresses adult themes and controversial issues. Parental guidance is suggested. It is not recommended for children under 13.

What awards did it win?
Most notably the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. It also won a slew of other awards.

Is the show still playing on Broadway?
No, it closed on September 7, 2008 after more than 12 years on Broadway. It is the 11th longest running show in Broadway history.

Isn't this the show where the author/composer died?
Yes, you're thinking of Jonathan Larson who wrote the music, lyrics and the book. He died unexpectedly of an aortic aneurysm the night before the show's first performance off-Broadway and ten days before his 36th birthday.

Did he write anything else?
Yes, he wrote several pieces presented Off-Broadway, wrote songs for Sesame Street and created music for a number of children's book cassettes, including Steven Spielberg's An American Tail and Land Before Time. Tick Tick Boom, another musical he wrote recently played Off-Broadway at the Jane Street Theatre.

Who is directing the tour?
Evan Ensign will restage the 20th Anniversary Tour based on the original direction by Michael Greif, who directed Rent at New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway.
